Nike Discontinues Nike Free 5.0 v4

Nike has stopped the sales of Nike Free 5.0 v4 shoes

I have bad and good news. The bad news if you are looking for Nike Free 5.0 v4 shoes you’re out of luck. Nike has stopped making this shoe. However the good news is it seems like it’s been replaced by the Nike Free Run+.

So how did I find this out? Well, sit right down and I’ll tell you the entire, but brief story.

The other day a friend of mine asked me what running shoe I’d recommend to him. I told him if he wanted something new and refreshing he should check out Vibram FiveFingers shoes. However, he’s not really into the barefoot running thing and instead just wanted a decent running shoe. I told him to check out the Nike Free 5.0 V4 shoes since it’s a decent shoe; light and extremely comfortable to use while running.

Happy with myself for helping out a friend I sent him off on his merry way.  A few days later, though, he came back to me and said he couldn’t find any Nike Free’s and that someone had told him that they stopped making Nike Free’s. I was pretty surprised. These shoes were so popular that I couldn’t believe Nike would just stop making and selling them. I decided to dig a little deeper.

One Google search later I found this message on Nike’s official store page for the Nike Free 5.0 V4:

This product is no longer available

Here’s the screenshot (see it for yourself here):

So there you have it. If you were looking to get a pair of Nike Free 5.0 V4’s your time has passed. However, if you really want to find a pair you can try:

Right now I’m sure many retailers are just clearing out the last of their stock so you probably won’t have that many sizes and colors to choose from. You are probably better of looking into getting a pair of Nike Free Run+ instead. The popular Nike Free 5.0 v4 running shoe is no longer being made

Very interesting as I just got off the phone w/Nike store and was trying to get edeucated on this particular shoe I am potentially going to buy.I asked if this shoe(5.0v4)was new because of very little selection from retailers. She certainly didn’t mention discontinuation and although I didn’t want to spring for the $110.00 price tag ,I assumed the shoe was readily available. Thanks and hope to hear from you.

Hi Denny, the shoe’s been out for a while and the little selection may be due to the fact that they just stopped producing newer ones. They’ve been traditionally around 85 or so dollars, i wonder why it was so expensive at the Nike store you are referring to. Is there any reasons why you wouldn’t get the Nike Free Run+? It’s pretty nice.
