Just wanted to give you guys an update on the upcoming New Balance Minimus shoes we first reported on a few weeks ago. Last we heard was New Balance was going to officially launch the line at the Outdoor Retailers 2010 show which happened at the beginning of August. We wanted to follow up and see how it went so we contacted some people at New Balance.
This is what we heard back:
The launch at OR…[Outdoor Retailer show]… went great – so many retailers and media members were super excited by the product – both the story and research behind it – as well as the finished product (in terms of visual cosmetic, fit, feel, etc.)…We should be releasing additional information and images about the collection in the coming weeks (beginning of September).
Ideally we wanted to get our hands on some more pictures, but aside from the teaser photos we shared with you before, New Balance is keeping the Minimus top secret until they are ready to unleash them upon the world. It’s good to see there was some positive buzz beginning around these shoes. Though, after thinking about it, it’s doubtful that New Balance would ever officially tell us that “people hated our Minimus shoes.” But after digging around online I think it’s likely that they were probably well-received.
The folks over at Gearjunkie.com not only got to see the same photos we shared with you, but they also got to spend some time behind closed doors with the actually Minimus shoe line. Not only were they impressed, but they listed the Minimus shoes as one of their Best in Show products. This is what they had to say:
The shoes, which won’t be to market until spring 2011, are still top-secret. (The company would only provide cropped “sneak peek” photos.) But after some time with the shoes in a closed room at the Outdoor Retailer trade show, it’s apparent that the barefoot-inspired Minimus line could be a game changer
There you have it. The NB Minimus shoes are game changing. It’s a shame we still have to wait, but as always if we come across any more information we’ll be the first to let you know.
What do you guys think? You think these shoes could be game changing? Or do you think Vibram FiveFingers will still reign supreme in the world of barefooting shoes? Let us know in the comments.
